anything less than the best is a felony

robvanwinkle.com closed down awhile citing lack of interest. well, i wouldn't say that the two of us have lost interest in the ice man, but in his attempt to become "legitimate" through aligning himself with the rap-metal community he has essentially made us stop laughing. so we'll leave ice to his future and wish him the best, but he's on his own now. take care, robbie. take care, vanillaice.org. it was good knowin' ya.

vanilla ice's website features two mp3s for download, both songs being featured on his upcoming album, skabz. if nothing else, you've gotta give the ice man credit for embracing the online music phenomenon.

awhile ago, the vanilla ice fan club redesigned their site. they feature articles about rob's history, an image gallery and much more. we only take issue with the assertion that rob is responsible for "ten years of music." wouldn't it be more like four, stuffed into a ten year span? saying "ten years of music" in that regard is kind of like putting out an album in 2001 and another in 2031 and then saying, "thirty years of music!" hmm.

we wish we'd caught the iceman's recent interview with entertainment tonight. supposedly, he discussed, "his ride into rap stardom, the recent domestic battery arrest, eminem and the brand new record he just finished." there is a short video of him discussing the fact that eminem dissed ice on a recent album. ice commented that he doesn't know why eminem did it since he "doesn't even know (rob)." i guess that vanilla was just having a short mental lapse about the fact that insults on wax have been a part of hip hop since it first originated.

vanilla ice made an appearance in san diego last friday night, and from the reports i've heard, it was a standard iceman show, based on recent standards. i guess his fans didn't question his recent arrest (maybe they didn't know about it?), and i guess it was just shrugged off when he made his call for the women in the audience to take their shirts off. we at vi.org can only wonder how rob expects people to believe he cares about his wife and children when he is on stage being a big ol' sexist.

it's not such a happy note to come back on after two months of silence, but today it was reported that vanilla ice was involved in a domestic dispute last night. we certainly don't find this humorous at all, and hope more details are released soon. has vanilla ice's new aggressive attitude seeped over from his music into his personal life?

we've been quiet around here, we'll admit it, but we'll be back up and in your face very soon.  we've just been busy, but we didn't want vanilla ice's birthday to go by without a shout out.  october 31st was rob's 32nd birthday.  it's hard to believe, but true.  just don't tell the guy he's old, or he'll pull a move on you like this.

it appears that matt has changed his opinion a bit, since the last time we heard his comments on the iceman and his "ninja rap." this article is more or less a synopsis of ice's classic movie. (if you haven't seen the movie yet, don't read this; the whole story is more or less revealed.) however, he does leave out some of the great lines that fans of the film have grown to love. at any rate, watching this movie makes matt come to the realization that we have all had for quite a long time. while all of his words regarding v.i. are not the kindest, matt still has come to appreciate him as the true genius that he is. (as an unrelated side note, the title of ice's new album has apparently been changed to skabz.)

the october 2000 issue of teen people contains an article about a certain wise-ass white rapper whose latest album sold almost 1.5 million copies in its first week. other famous people give their opinion about him, including the iceman. "eminem, you need to be grateful to me and dre because we paved the way, fool. if not, i'll eat eminems like candy and send you back to detroit wearing panties," ice is quoted, from a song on his new, work-in-progress album. i suppose this further dispells the strange rumor that the two are even remotely related.

vanillaice.com is starting to come together. most of the sections have very little or no content. however, ice has a new biography up, which is more or less the story portrayed on behind the music in his words only. also included on the site is a small bit of information about bomb tha system. while it doesn't tell much besides who will be appearing on the album, hopefully this page will tell us more in the future. too bad the icp collaboration appears to be true.

almost a year ago, we were informed that the filming of ice's latest movie was delayed. so we've all been watching cool as ice repeatedly, waiting for the day when vanilla would rule the screen again. well, the wait is over. released on video sometime within the past week, v.i. and eminem (among others) star in da hip hop witch, yet another parody of the blair witch project. the film was released by a-pix entertainment, home to other videostore classics such as jack frost and ice cream man (no, vanilla is not in this).

inside word from tom at the vanilla ice fan club is that vanilla ice himself has finally secured the coveted vanillaice.com domain that has been owned by some inspanidual in florida for years.  now there will finally be some true vanilla ice content up at that site.  we've got the proof.

please note that vanilla ice's late summer tour schedule has changed dramatically since the dates were last posted.  we've now updated the list at the right with new, up-to-date information.  if you're anything like us, those three dates in october look particularly appealing to organize some kind of grateful dead-style caravan to follow ice on tour.  don't misinterpret that-- we certainly hope that ice fans aren't grateful dead fans (blech!), we just mean that we want to grab hold of the back of ice's tour van and see how long we can last.

speaking of tmnt 2 a few posts ago, the website of all things from 80's pop culture and on has written their opinion on ice's appearance in the movie. the author of the article cites the iceman as "the true villain" of the film and claims that he enjoyed "staring at the fat guy's peculiar head tumor in front of us" more than watching ice perform "ninja rap." despite such harsh words, he still gives you all the lyrics and a chance to download the entire song for your listening pleasure. it's a shame that someone who admits his affection towards corey haim movies, the golden girls, and new order can't appreciate vanilla's lyrical genius and dope dancing.

laura is incorrect.  there are actually thousands of ice fans who would (and will) buy his albums.  his recent album reportedly sold 80,000 copies, which might not seem much as compared to the millions in sales of his first major label album, but considering his last album had little promotion and almost no airplay, that says a lot about the dedication of his fans.  we get tons of e-mail every day from ice fans all over the world, and they all tell us the same thing-- that the ice man is here to stay.  word to your mother.

to help dispel the rumors of the iceman's death, brett from columbia, south carolina writes to tell us, "i was at the ice show on 7/12/2k in columbia sc and he is very much alive and kicking." that's kind of news we like to hear up in here. we welcome anyone else to confirm that rob "muff buster" van winkle is still alive, as well. email us or call our voicemail.

last night, we received a rather disturbing email. it claimed that mr. rob van winkle died on sunday, july 9, 2000. according to the article, credited to reuters, his death was caused by a "rare form of lymphoma" which he had been "battling for two years." ironically enough, the quote they give from him says, "i want nothing fake. nothing posed. nothing made up." but as far as our research shows, that's exactly what this whole story is -- fake and made up. the weirdest part was at the end, where the story claimed he was the son of the late bob ross. the iceman is still alive and well; we have not found evidence that says otherwise. however, we will be keeping an eye out and report as soon as we find anything factual.

jonathan from germantown, maryland wrote to us with a question.  "in the teenage mutant ninja turtles movie that ice appeared in, were those real fans, or were they just actors?"  he is referring to teenage mutant ninja turtles 2: the secret of the ooze.  to answer your question, jonathan, all historical clues seem to indicate that they were just actors-- by the time this movie was released in the summer of 1991, it is believed that ice had no "real" fans.

apparently, even kid rock, redneck-greaser-multimillionaire, thinks he's cooler than the iceman. as discovered in a recent ebay auction, he wrote this letter on an airplane vomit bag, back in '98. the seller claims the authenticity of this letter by saying the kid himself reads it in a "bootleg video available at tower," presumably this one, and that it originally appeared in an issue of POPsmear magazine. well, maybe with the $50+ he is going to get for this trash, he can buy kid some proper writing paper and a dictionary. at any rate, one might argue that mr. rock has been passed the supposed torch to "embarrass and humiliate a whole [new] generation of white kids and music listeners."

tony casella from cheshire, massachussetts called in to ask where vanilla ice is living right now.  when the ice man isn't out on the road spreading his rap-rock gospel, he still lives in the south florida mansion which he bought with his earnings from the multi-platinum to the extreme album.

we don't usually do this here at vanillaice.org, but ruthie's e-mail was especially touching and we wanted to share it all with you.  she's from fort lauderdale, florida and has been down with the iceman for the long haul.  here's what ruthie wrote to us: "WHEN I WAS A GIRL I WAS PRETTY ABSESSED WITH ROB.I WAS LIKE 12-13. I HAD EVERY SINGLE ARTICAL, AND PICTURE PUT OUT ABOUT HIM. I OFCOURSE HAD THE AUTOBIOGRAGHY.I LEARNED EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM.I HAD HIS MOVIE AND JUST ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THAT HE MADE! jenn stein from mount holly, pennsylvania wrote, "is the ice man married? if not can you hook me up? i need the ice man to cool the fire in my pants!" i hate to disappoint you, jenn, but vanilla hasn't been saying "pump it, hottie" to anyone but his wife for years now. he is married to a woman named laura, and they have a daughter named dusti rain. even if these weren't the breaks, we are not a pimping service for the iceman. my suggestion is that you see a doctor about that burning thing you've got going on; it could be serious.

scorpio from amarillo, texas writes with a question for ice: "i herd a rumor that you are singing stuff like korn.  is it true?  if so why?  you should be singing rap if anything."  yes, vanilla ice's new style is much like korn, but as for a preference for one style over the other, we at vanillaice.org have no comment.  at the same time, we're very curious about this phenomena of "singing rap".  it sounds like a hip new trend, and if that's the case, i'm sure the ice man is on top of it.

oh, no.. say it ain't so, ice. it was one thing to collaborate with the bloodhound gang. but that was before you had reestablished yourself as a musician, and you were probably not even sure if you wanted to be one anymore. however, at this point, hard to swallow is out, and people are paying attention. they are already looking forward to the new album.. there is no need for collaborations with complete wastes of space and plastic, the insane clown posse. let them just fade away, like so many people thought you would. don't do it, ice.. please say this is just a rumor.

a little over a year ago, cnn profiled vanilla ice on their website.  most of the details here were either covered in his vh1 special or are already known to ice fans, but it's still a good read, nonetheless. ice brings to light details about the old days when he would groom himself. "i had clippers, used to get stoned and would start cutting my hair. i had fun," ice is quotes as saying. "but i'm low-maintenance now, don't have time for that stuff."

someone is obviously jealous of the fact that the ladies throw themselves at the feet of vanilla ice, so they felt the need to question ice's sexuality with a poorly designed site. that's okay 'cause we all know what's up.. he would still be with a different lady every night if he wasn't currently enjoying the married life. however, the author of this site should stay away from mike and his crew. mike says ice "can touch [his] anger" like no one else. trust me; you don't want to see an angry v.i. fan.

wow! vanillaice.net finally has content! perhaps i'm just late to discover this, but it's kind of exciting. the server seems kind of slow, but there's a lot of real audio and video, as well as photos with fans and more. they're also reporting that ice has a new album coming out this summer called "bomb the system." does anyone know anything about this?

apparently, they have nothing better to do in kansas city than make up blatant lies.. and not even good ones, at that. it doesn't really take much creativity to replace "ice" with "spice." this was an obvious attempt to lump vanilla ice in with washed-up has-beens, the spice girls. but who's still making records, touring, and comes up fairly often in regular conversation today, baby? looks like it's not a spice world afterall..

vanilla ice is never going to be able to get his own personal domain name.. adding to the list of domains bearing his name, robvanwinkle.com promises to have some pretty neat flash animation about the i-c-e. its creator, who goes by the handle of "vanilla fan," boasts having the first vanilla ice flash site, even tho' it doesn't have much to offer just yet. however, he truly lives up to the name he's given himself; ask him about his ice collection.

vanilla ice is far from unemployed, although a good point could be made that vanilla ice is a prime example of people buying whatever mtv feeds them. was vanilla ice a visionary artist? sure. but the fact remains that he had his moment in the spotlight simply because, for once, mtv decided to push a musician who was truly pushing the envelope himself. it's rare that this happens, and that's why we'll always cherish that "one summer" with vanilla ice (wasn't it during the school year that he was popular, though?) and hold it in our hearts always.

in october, the vanilla ice fan club reported that ice was in the studio with ross robinson and was collaborating with lenny kravitz.  the products of these sessions have yet to come forth, and no other details about impending releases have been given to the media.  we can only speculate and hope that the kravitz/van winkle collaborations have more in common with "are you gonna go my way" and less in common with the repetitive, car commercial refrains of "fly away" or kravitz's grating cover of "american woman."

that stylin' jacket to the left is only $2,500. this auction has been going on since sometime this past fall. whoever is in charge of it should have realized by now that the iceman's fans are either teenagers or their names are jack and david.. and as cool as it would be to own any of those, none of us have that kind of money for a jacket.
